Who we are

ClassCue is an app for teachers. It is a CodeSkool product made by Hacktronics India ("we", "us"). You can reach us at support@codeskool.cc.

What ClassCue is for

A teacher asks a question in class. Each student holds up one printed card, turned so their answer (A, B, C or D) is at the top. The teacher sweeps the room with the phone camera, and ClassCue shows who answered what.

Only teachers use the app. Students do not sign in, do not install anything and never touch the phone. The side of the card that the phone reads carries only the answer letters and a number. Students may write their own name on the back of the card; the phone never reads it.

What ClassCue handles, and why

The teacher's sign-in. The teacher types an email address and password on the sign-in screen. They are used only to sign in, or to email a password-reset link. The app does not keep the password. After sign-in it keeps a sign-in token and the teacher's account number on the phone, encrypted and left out of phone backups, so the teacher stays signed in for 7 days even with no internet. Logging out removes them.

Classes, students and quizzes. The app receives the teacher's classes, the students' names and card numbers, and the quizzes from the school's account (the school sets these up on the website). A copy is saved on the phone so the teacher can teach without internet. The app also shows the class's earlier results, including the name of the teacher who ran each lesson, and keeps a copy of them on the phone.

Students' answers and attendance. When a card is read, the answer is saved on the phone straight away. When a lesson is finished and the phone is online, the lesson is uploaded to the school's account. The upload carries the student's account number, the card number, the answer letter and the time - not the student's name. Attendance (who was here or absent, and the date) is uploaded the same way. If the teacher types a question, its options or the right answer, that is uploaded too.

The seating map. To help the teacher point the camera at students who have not answered yet, the phone works out roughly where each student sits, using the camera and the phone's motion sensors. This map stays on the phone and is never sent to us.

The camera. The camera is used only to read the cards, live, on the phone. The pictures are not saved and are not sent anywhere.

What ClassCue does not collect. Location, contacts, microphone, photos or files, and the advertising ID. ClassCue has no ads, no analytics and no crash-reporting tools.

Who receives data

Once uploaded, results are part of the class's records on the school's account, where the school's teachers and administrators can see them. Students of a quiz may be told their result is ready, in their school account on the website.

How long we keep it, and how to have it removed

On the phone, saved classes and results stay until the app is uninstalled or its storage is cleared. They are not included in the phone's backups. Logging out removes the sign-in but keeps the saved results, so that results not yet uploaded are never lost.

On our servers, results and attendance stay on the school's account for as long as the school uses ClassCue, so teachers can look back at them. If the school stops using ClassCue, or asks us to remove something, we remove it as described below.

To ask us to correct or delete information, email support@codeskool.cc (or ask your school, which looks after its class records). Tell us the school and class and what you would like changed. Where the record belongs to the school, we act once the school agrees.

Children

ClassCue is used by teachers, who are adults. It is not directed at children, and children do not use the app or sign in to it. The app does handle information about a school's students - their names, card numbers, answers and attendance - because the school gives it to us for its own teaching. We use it only to run ClassCue for that school. The school decides which students are in a class.

Security

Everything the app sends travels over HTTPS. The sign-in is stored encrypted on the phone. Apart from the sign-in security check, the app only shows its own pages: any other link opens in the phone's browser.

Changes

If we change this policy we will change the date at the top of this page.
